HOW TO SAVE MONEY ON GAS

Even if the price of gas has gone down, people are still looking for ways to save money by increasing gas mileage. Good car maintenance and good driving habits can help you get the most gas mileage out of your car whether it is new or old car.

Instructions

    • 1
        tire pressure
Check your tires and make sure it is properly inflated. Having proper tire pressure can increase mileage by reducing friction between your tires and the pavement. It saves you money on fuel and tire wear too.

Get easy on the gas pedal. Instead of driving more than 70, keep your speed to 60 and you will save significant amount of gas not to mention speeding tickets. When approaching a stop sign or intersection where you need a full stop, slow down so you don't need to hit that break harder. It saves you on gas and keeps you safe too.

Get rid of the junk in your trunk or inside the car that adds up significant weight in your car like roof racks or other heavy objects. If you own pick up trucks, always cover the back to reduce wind drag.

Always keep your windows rolled down unless absolutely necessary to open them. In most cases, turning the AC on is more fuel efficient than rolling your windows down to keep cool especially when driving in a highway because it keeps your car aerodynamics and reduces wind drag.

Tune up your car regularly especially if you are driving older models. Get your distributor, spark plugs, and rotor changed at least every 30,000 miles. Change engine oil regularly and use only what the owner's manual is recommending. Keeping your engine in good shape means making it more fuel efficient thereby increasing gas mileage. It is also recommended to keep your fuel tank full every time you fill up because it prevents water vapor condensation in your tank and it also helps fuel pumps cool.
These are simple things that most car owners neglect to do that can help increase gas mileage and save money.
